RSL BCR 87.7

BCR 87.7 FM from Sheffield heard this evening, on the way home from work. Heard from 17:45, playing dance music.

Strong signal from M1 junction 34 to 32, then - at approx 17:50 - the audio stopped and dead carrier was heard.

Can't find their website, but a bit more info here

London pirates

Took my car down to London for Marxism this year. Normally I take public transport, but I went down on 8th July - the day after the London bombings - and public transport in London was, hardly surprisingly, in a mess.

It's an ill wind that blows no good, though. Tonight I used the car radio to do an FM band scan for pirates. No less than 15 stations were ID'd, here in the Barnes area of south-west London, with about 10 more unidentified. In one case, RDS was transmitted but I didn't ID the station; some of the London pirates transmit adverts via scrolling RDS.

The log is available here.

Edinburgh Castle

Had a day off from protesting today, and visited Edinburgh Castle. Awesome view overlooking Edinburgh and into the distance, can easily see Forth road and rail bridges from the top.

Radio reception was slightly spoilt by receiver overload from a strong main transmitter, but still pretty good. Full log available here

Faslane log

Following the Make Poverty History march on Saturday and the G8 Alternatives conference yesterday, I today visited Faslane to protest against the Trident nuclear submarine base there. (Ridding the world of Weapons of Mass Destruction begins at home!)

On my radio walkman, the following FM stations were heard there (near the North Gate):

89.2 BBC Eadio 2
89.8 BBC Radio 2
91.4 BBC Radio 3
93.6 BBC Radio Scotland
95.7 unidentified, very weak
98.8 BBC Radio 1 (the stronger signal)
99.5 BBC Radio 1 (the weaker signal)
101.2 Real Radio
103.8 BBC Radio 4
106.8 Your Radio

Over the hill, near the peace camp, I also heard Clyde 1 on 103.3

CU for now

No further additions to this blog for one and a half weeks. I'm leaving tonight for Edinburgh to take part in the G8 protests, then to London for Marxism 2005. When I return, I hope to have a bit of info on radio reception in Scotland and London.

73's for now.
