Leeds pirates gone

Early this afternoon, Fresh FM were noted at the Cedar Court Hotel, near Wakefield (off junction 39 of the M1) - some way south of Leeds. Signal was strong enough for the RDS to be readable.

By 4pm this evening, however, no Leeds pirates were heard; Fresh FM and Peoples FM were gone.

Raided?

Starforce Radio International lives up to its name

Starforce Radio International, streaming via the web, today reached a milestone with at least one listener in Indonesia!

Starforce Radio International started its life, back in 1997, as the Clowne-based FM pirate Starforce FM.

It seems that web radio is the new short wave; capable of international broadcasting, across borders and even listened to by people who speak different languages. Like short wave, it has the drawback that portable listening is still difficult, often impossible. But unlike short wave, reasonable quality stereo music can be broadcast :-)

This morning, recordings of earlier programmes were broadcast. The next live broadcast will take place on Sunday evening, from 7pm to 10pm. Streaming takes place, using Pirate Radio software, via their website as follows:

Six of one

On the coach back from the Stop The War demo in London, passing near Oxford, I got Six TV Oxford on my pocket portable TV. Was on UHF channel 47, understood to be an RSL TV channel

First received on the M40 just before turning onto the A32, still receivable near Brackley.

Programmes looked like kids' TV programmes (a bit similar to Bob The Builder etc.)

Hum along to the music

The Asian station heard near Leeds is Hum FM 87.9 from Leeds.

RDS is what looks like a phone number.

This morning, they were announcing as KBFM - maybe a relay of the KBFM Leeds web stream?
Then again, their website does mention that Hum FM is "a new project by an old name in the radio field". Hmm...

As for the much weaker Asian station on 87.7 - this hasn't yet been identified, but may well be Radio Milaad from Bradford. Heard nearly as far as Doncaster, then Redroad FM started to take over the frequency.

Also audible as far as junction 38 of the A1 (near Doncaster).

Near Leeds, 2 Asian RSL's heard, on 87.7 and 87.9.
More info will be posted when I can positively ID them.
