Hit Music Radio Sheffield

Hit Music Radio was heard tonight on 100.8 FM, from 17:15.

RDS = HITMUSIC

Mentioned Sheffield numerous times (their traffic news mentioned the M18/M1 traffic jam I was stuck in at the time!), their website mentions broadcasts from Sheffield but implies Hit Music Radio to be an internet radio station. Strange :-$

Was first heard on the M18 near junction 1 (Rotherham), becoming stronger when I joined the M1 (junction 32). Was heard strongly near the Woodall service station, but faded out soon after and had disappeared underneath bleedover from Heart FM 100.7 by junction 30. Not audible in Clowne on FM, but can of couse still be heard via their website:

Peoples FM Leeds

Leeds pirate Peoples FM 104.5 heard tonight from 4pm, with the best signal in ages - still audible well south of Darrington on the A1.

Taking a leaf out of Fresh FM 95.6's book, Peoples FM now have scrolling RDS.

Format was reggae music (including Judge Dredd "Big Six"!)

RDS = KCFM99-8

Although the signal is not as strong as the other Hull ILR Viking FM, KCFM is still audible over a wide area, from Garforth in Leeds to Clowne (including most of the A1 from junctions 42 to 35, and the M18 as far as the M1 junction).

London pirates and other observations

Only one more station ID'd today, namely:

96.6 mono Heat FM heard approx 1:20 am

Off topic, the Kurdish Community Centre where I'm staying is certainly well decorated with Kurdish insignia and pictures of Kurdish heroes (eg Ocolan, their representative who has yet to be recognised as such by the international Establishment). What's more, the centre even has its own kiosk-type shop for refreshments.

A communal TV there is tuned to Kurdsat (a satellite TV channel in Kurdish), and throughout the night Kurdish/Asian music videos are aired. Unusual but kinda interesting ...

London pirates

Arrived tonight in London for Marxism 2007 (the SWP's annual socialist event).

I'm sleeping overnight in the Kurdish Community Centre, near Finsbury Park.

Following pirates (not an exhaustive list!) have been noted on a small walkman-type radio:

89.8 stereo Station FM, a long-running community pirate.
Format was mostly reggae music. Are running an anti-gun & knife crime promo, in which Station FM presenters urge listeners to leave their guns and knives at home.

94.0 Touch FM format of R&B music, including "old skool" R&B from the 1990s.

105.6 Jiggy Radio (?)

More lists as I ID stations. After all, I am in London 'til Monday night :-)

Asian Fever Leeds now full time

Radio Asian Fever now has a full-time community radio licence, and is now on 107.3 FM.

Signal can be heard with a weak but listenable signal in Garforth.

Asian Fever has previously had RSL's. Sometimes (when their frequency was clear) the signal used to, ironically, reach further than it does now they've got a full-time licence.
