Radio Barnsley and Akash Radio

Radio Barnsley currently on-air, on 87.7.
RDS = BARNSLEY
Visit their website

Heard here in clowne, and as far north as junction 39 of the M1 motorway. Further north, another station on 87.7 starts to become dominant on the frequency, namely ...

Akash Radio
an Asian station, on-air during Diwali.
Mostly religious programmes in the Hindi language heard.

In my humble opinion, it was a mistake putting two RSL's on the same frequency so close together geographically. Surely one could have been licenced on 87.6 (preferred) or 87.8 (not quite so good, as it may impinge upon Vixen FM 87.9), to increase the coverage area of both slightly.

Vixen 87 back on air

Vixen 87 from Market Weighton is back on-air on 87.9

Again, a powerful signal which can be heard all the way from Leeds to Clowne. Format seems to be mostly oldies. See their website.

At certain places on the M1 while driving home, another station on 87.9 occasionally broke over the top of Vixen. This station is unidentified, but I suspect it broadcasts from the west of the Pennines (Manchester, perhaps?)

Onto other matters: My opinion of BBC Radio 1 went up by 50dB tonight, when they played one of my favourite tracks of all time, Rage Against The Machine "Killing In The Name". Alright, so they censored the end of the song ... however, considering this contained the repeated use of the F-word, they had to really!

Ingoldmells, Skegness

Just back from the Halloween & Bonfire Night weekend at Skegness Butlins (actually in the neighbouring town of Ingoldmells).

Although too busy to make a full log, I did notice that FM stations from East Anglia came in quite well. For example, Vibe FM 106.4 was strong enough on my car radio to read the RDS. In my chalet, Vibe FM 106.4 had a stronger signal than Galaxy 105.8 !

Also receivable from East Anglia was Hereward FM 102.7

As perhaps to be expected, the strongest ILR's were Lincs FM 102.2 and Viking FM 96.9
