Manchester

Visited Manchester today, for the "Time To Go" demo outside the Labore, sorry, Labour Party conference.

Although I didn't take a dedicated radio, my mobile phone - a Nokia 6230i - has a built-in FM radio. Although a bit insensitive, a few stations could be heard.

Including a pirate playing black music on 99.7 - name sounded like Irie FM.

Other stations receivable in Manchester town centre include:

96.2 The Revolution
96.9 All FM
97.7 X-FM
100.4 Smooth FM
102.0 Galaxy FM
103.0 Key 103
105.4 Century FM

And while the coach was passing through Stockport ...

104.9 Imagine FM
107.8 Pure FM

Penistone FM 87.7

While visiting Barnsley Metrodome tonight, heard

Penistone FM on 87.7
RDS = PENISTON
Penistone FM website

Format seems to be mostly oldies and community info. Interestingly, a community promo mentioned Barnsley hospital.

Heard south as far as Clowne.

BTW Penistone is actually pronounced "pen-iss-ton" (sorry to pi$$ in the coke of all the sniggering trevs out there :-D )

Notorious pirate on 87.7

Finally ID'd the pirate on 87.7 tonight.

On way back from Bolsover approx 19:20, I heard the station announce as Notorious FM.

At the time, they were playing rock music - officially "indie", some is popular among local skaters - with the DJ announcing as DJ Rizla. According to their website, however, dance and rap music is aired from 21:00 to 22:00 - which does tally with previous pre-closedown loggings.

A jingle samples the 1980s futurist song "Notorious" (can't remember who it was by) followed by a sample of "Pirates' Anthem".

Notorious FM Website

Again, heard with a just-about-listenable signal here in Clowne.
