Radio Ramadan Sheffield

The Muslim festival of Ramadan is with us again, and so is the network of Radio Ramadan RSL's.

One of the more significant (at least in terms of coverage) seems to be Radio Ramadan Sheffield, who are on 87.7 FM.

Audible easily in Clowne, listenable signal in Chesterfield.

RDS = RAMADAN

and Goodbye Radio Ability

Radio Ability has announced it is closing down. The reason given was that the original dream of Radio Ability - namely, a community radio station for people with disabilities - has now been realised full-time, in the form of Able Radio. The person behind Radio Ability gives his full backing to Able Radio.

Old programmes will continue to be available on Radio Ability's website - which is to be re-designed as a historical site dedicated to Radio Ability. With this in mind, it is planned to add a few extra old programmes - some dated back to 1993 - to the site.

Au Revoir Nemesis Revival

Nemesis Revival 87.8, a pirate from somewhere in North Derbyshire, announced today it was closing down until the autumn.

From 3pm to just after 6pm, Nemesis Revival was on-air today and also on Sunday 2nd August.
Nemesis Revival was heavily based on the pirate Radio Nemesis, which used to broadcast to the North Derbyshire area back in 1987 - the DJ even called himself Richard 'Force Twelve' Gale (could it be the same one as operated the original Nemesis?), and the old Nemesis 'You will not ...' promo was aired.

Format was mostly dance music with minimal chat; although Radio Ability - aired from 4pm to 5pm - was 'across the board' music by recording artists with disabilities and disability info.

It was announced that Nemesis Revival hopes to return, possibly in October. In the meantime, plans are afoot to sort out web streaming, hopefully (it was announced) within the next fortnight. Watch this space ...

Disabled but very Able

Found a new web radio station for people with disabilities, namely Able Radio.
Format seems to be a mix of music and talk, with many periods of non-stop music but also - mostly in the evening - a number of programmes covering across the disability movement, such as youth, arts and sports related programmes.
Mistly, the music played seems not to have a bias towards disability. However, on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, a one hour programme called Able Showcase features music by artists with disabilities.

Very good to see a full time station for people with disabilities (even if it does mean Radio Ability is now redundant, lol).
