Peace in the valley

On the way back from Blackpool, at Manchester Oxford Road train station, I heard Peace FM 90.1 testing.

RDS = Peace FM

Good signal, was atill audible on the train, some way to the east of Stockport.

96.0 BBC Radio Shropshire - mono signal
96.2 The Revolution, RDS = THE REV
96.9 All FM (Manchester), RDS = ALL FM
106.1 Rock Radio (Manchester), RDS = ROCK RAD

Sheffield 103.1 is BCR

While visiting Sheffield this evening, the station on 103.1 was positively ID'd as BCR.

New Leeds station Jew on air soon

Radio Jcom, a community radio station for Jews, is currently testing on 1386 MW.

The test transmissions feature quite a wide range of music, interspersed with announcements mentioning Jcom's mail address and website.

Start date for full broadcasts is as-yet unknown.

Signal heard as far as Barnsley and Doncaster with a reasonable signal (daylight hours).

Burngreave Community Radio 103.1

New radio stations are like buses, you wait for ages then 2 come at once. So is the case in Sheffield, where Radio Hallam ruled the roost from the early 1970's, and (at least legally) it seemed that the boom in small-scale local radio was passing Sheffield by.

Things suddenly changed last summer, when Sheffield Live 93.2 started testing, followed by full broadcasts in the autumn. Now another community radio station has started, this time from northern Sheffield ...

Burngreave Community Radio, aka BCR, is now testing on 103.1

Full programmes are due to start on Saturday 31st May. Broadcasting hours will be 7am to midnight daily.

Signal easily reaches as far as Woodhall Service Station on the M1 southbound, and a very weak signal can be heard in Clowne (although there is splatter from adjacent stations). No RDS noted yet, and no website found.

Peoples FM Leeds

Leeds pirate Peoples FM 104.5 heard tonight from 4pm, with the best signal in ages - still audible well south of Darrington on the A1.

Taking a leaf out of Fresh FM 95.6's book, Peoples FM now have scrolling RDS.

Format was reggae music (including Judge Dredd "Big Six"!)

Asian Fever Leeds now full time

Radio Asian Fever now has a full-time community radio licence, and is now on 107.3 FM.

Signal can be heard with a weak but listenable signal in Garforth.

Asian Fever has previously had RSL's. Sometimes (when their frequency was clear) the signal used to, ironically, reach further than it does now they've got a full-time licence.

WCR Wolverhampton disability arts programme

I see Wolverhampton's community radio station WCR FM 101.8 now has a disability arts programme, Outside Centre, on Wednesdays from 3pm to 5pm. (Thanks to the Danmail discussion group for this info).

WCR has quite a long history as a community radio group. Back in the early 1990's, they had a regular broadcast via BBC Radio WM's 828kHz MW transmitter, and did several RSL's under the name of Challenge FM.
