Bounce back and feel the Vibez

Huddersfield pirate Vibez FM 90.6 heard tonight on the M1, near Barnsley (junction 37).

RDS = VIBEZ FM

Signal faded out soon afterwards, but was still audible as far as junction 36.


In Sheffield, Bounce FM 88.0 was heard for the first time in ages. Although no RDS, a strong signal was still audible almost as far as Clowne.


In Leeds, the usual pirates - namely Peoples FM 104.5, Fresh FM 95.6, and Radio Frequency 88.1, were all heard on the way home just after 4pm.

In addition, an Asian RSL was heard on 87.9. Adverts mentioned Bradford, so station is probably Apni Awaaz FM.

Tropo continues

This evening, from 8pm onwards, Dutch radio was again heard at the lower end of the FM dial.

On 88.0, Dutch Radio 2 was heard, strong enough to read RDS = RADIO 2
On 91.8 was Dutch Radio 1 ("Radio En")
Unidentified Dutch stations also heard on 91.8 and 93.9

Also, I notice the Huddersfield ILR on 107.9 - which started out in 1998 as Huddersfield FM before becoming Home FM - is now IDing as The New Pennine FM. (The original Pennine Radio, which started in Bradford back in the 1970's, changed its name to Pulse FM in the 90's).

Frontline back with a vengeance

Huddersfield pirate Frontline FM 94.7 heard this evening, for the first time in ages.

Heard in Garforth approx 16:00, still on the A1 south of the M62 (although had disappeared by Darrington). DJ on the station mentioned listeners as far as Sheffield.

Living on the Frontline 94.7

Frontline Radio 94.7 from Huddersfield heard in Garforth this morning around 07:50, and this afternoon around 16:00. Format is reggae, dance and R&B music.

Signal was very weak, competing with BBC Radio Sheffield's low power transmitter in Chesterfield!

Jingles include "Frontline radio - the number 1 for urban music".

Radio Ramadan

Radio Ramadan has been on-air for over a week now, from various areas, to celebrate the Islamic festival of Ramadan.

Near Leeds, Radio Ramadan Wakefield is audible on 87.7. Radio Ramadan Sheffield is also on 87.7, and can be heard weakly in Clowne. Due to the sharing of frequencies, they can - on a good reception day - sometimes compete with each other while driving between Barnsley and Sheffield (just south of junction 37)!

In addition, Radio Ramadan Huddersfield is on 107.2, and can be heard between Barnsley and Leeds. Their frequency of 107.2 is very close to that of Trax FM 107.1 from Doncaster, and so "splatter" sometimes occurs - otherwise, I suspect, their signal could be heard over a wider distance.

Radio Ramadan Sheffield broadcasts a programme for young muslims in the late afternoon, often heard from approx 4:30pm (while I'm driving on the M1 past Sheffield).
